Looking for a job that looks great on a resume while offering flexible hours that fits with your schedule and great pay? Look no further than Seaton Athletics.

Seaton Athletics is a community-based organization that has been running a variety of after school enrichment programs in elementary schools in the Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham school districts for 10+ years. These classes include both athletic and eductional programs such as floor hockey, basketball, dodgeball, flag football, soccer, weird science, and more!

These positions are especially beneficial to those interested in a sports or teaching related field, though not necessary. While knowledge of certain sports is preferred, it is not required as we will provide any and all training.

What are the Requirements?

  • You must be local to the area: As mentioned, we are a community-based organization that works in elementary schools out of the Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham school districts. You don’t have to live in these communities, but if your commute is more than 30 minutes, you’re probably too far away.
  • You must either be a HS Senior or older by the time you start instructing independently: This program is ideal for HS students, local college students looking for employment or someone looking for a job with part-time hours which won’t interfere with studies/other commitments.
  • You must be able to make a commitment for at least the 1st session you are assigned: We don’t have requirements on how often you must teach or what activities; we just want to make sure that if we’re training you, you stick around for a bit and we can’t leave the children hanging either! Of course, if it turns out that teaching truly is not for you, we will try to accommodate you as best we can. (We don’t think that’ll happen, though.)
  • You must be able to pass a background check and be fingerprinted: For the safety of our students, all of our instructors are required to be background checked before they appear in a classroom. Seaton Athletics reimburses for all background checks and fingerprinting.
  • You must be responsible, punctual and comfortable/good with children

What does the training consist of?
The training will take place over as many class days as an individual may need. One of our experienced instructors will be with you for at least your first class day.  Their you will watch the instructor to get an idea of what is expected and then you will be handed the reigns for us to watch and give constructive criticism and advice.  Things included could be information on teaching styles, philosophy, common classroom issues such as management, and lesson planning.  Once you’re ready to handle the classroom you will be on your own!  We will never have you on you own until you feel ready.

How much will I make?
Full instructors will make $30 per each class of a session. Assistant instructors will make between $10-$15 an hour. Opportunities exist for you to make more by being a program director and earning a percentage of profits.

When will I work?
The majority of our classes are after school at elementary schools (3:40pm-5:10pm range).  You can work as many or as few class session as you want! During school breaks (summer in particular, but also spring), we offer week-long camps.

What kinds of positions are available?
We have several!

  • Instructor: A full instructor will manage a classroom on his/her own with provided lesson plans, and be paid by the session.
  • Assistant Instructor: This position is for individuals in the training process or for those who are below the HS Senior age. As an assistant instructor, you’ll help the lead teacher in classroom management, cleanup, and other teaching activities. Assistant instructors are particularly invaluable when there are lots of kids!
  • Program Director: For those with experience in areas not currently being offered already you may be able to create your own program with our guidance and expertise. Program Directors are paid a percentage of the total income from the class.  When the classes get popular enough, he/she can hire teachers and assistant teachers to take the load off. This is the best of both entrepreneurship and education!
